How a leading healthcare system prioritizes patient care through operational upgrades and energy savings

Across multi-site campuses, including 3 acute care hospitals, 3 inpatient behavioral health hospitals, a rehabilitation hospital, and over 30 other outpatient centers and medical office properties, InSite delivers data integration, optimization services, utility budgeting and more.

The Challenge

Adventist HealthCare is one of Maryland’s largest, open health systems with seven facilities, 5,500 employees, and more than 750,000 overall patient encounters annually.

When their leaders are accustomed to making life or death decisions within split seconds, there’s no patience for slow, convoluted data. The complexity of multiple types of sites, operational areas, and levels of personnel interacting with the data constricted AHC’s abilities to maximize their energies on their top priority; patient health.

In 2010, Adventist had little leverage of the existing facility data, and was unable to benchmark, analyze or value opportunities to help prioritize resources. As a growing organization, Adventist HealthCare faced barriers in expanding and evolving its facilities operations as they grew their portfolio through a series of acquisitions and partnerships, which drove the need to standardize best practices, while optimizing the performance of their buildings and teams, so that they could focus on delivering world-class patient care.

The InSite Solution

InSite has worked with Adventist for over 15 years, deploying and managing data acquisition devices and technology solutions that have connected more than 1,000 meters and pieces of equipment. This data was consolidated under the InSite platform, a comprehensive technology infrastructure that gave Adventist’s facilities and real estate teams real time visibility into their energy and system’s performance.

When coupled with InSite’s Managed Services Team this data was used to benchmark, analyze, and identify efficiency opportunities, which were then used to prioritize resources, to reduce energy and carbon consumption and improve environmental compliance.

InSite’s Professional Engineers, Analysts and Account Team meet monthly with AHC’s, Chief Property Officer, EVP, Facilities Directors, CFOs, and Accountants to track progress against annual KPIs and budgetary targets. On an Adhoc basis, InSite Engineers will reach out to the Adventist Team with time sensitive operational issues based on criticality or value.

Turn your Data into Actionable Intelligence Today

The proven process has delivered healthcare companies between 15 and 20% reduction in operating expenses and 2-3x returns on their service investment in just the first year, with equal or better savings as the work marches on.
