Building optimization

InSite delivers continuous commissioning and targeted recommendations for cost-effective building optimization. With expert analysis and a focus on immediate savings, InSite enables client teams to take targeted actions that have been vetted, valued and validated against their cost savings and operational efficiency goals.

Prescriptions, not Prophecies

Your operations teams need more than another list of problems, they need solutions. InSite combines the best of smart buildings technology with the deep expertise of building scientists and energy analysts into a package that prioritizes results.

When this customer’s preheat valve was closed one February, excessive preheat temperatures indicated it had actually failed. This created simultaneous heating and cooling because the valve was no longer modulating the discharge temperature. When the valve was repaired, temperatures normalized and the heat waste was eliminated, resulting in nearly $10k in annual savings.

Prioritizing Action

With data-driven recommendations delivered by experts, InSite unifies data from existing systems to streamline monitoring and identify the highest impact problems affecting costs and comfort. As a managed service, InSite’s team supports you through issue resolution as well as measurement and verification.

InSite noticed the first spike in energy usage on the chiller plant (green line) and recommended a condenser water and chilled water temperature reset to be implemented over the winter period. This resulted in reduced chiller lift and higher plant efficiency in shoulder seasons as well as significant reduction in nighttime kW/ton for an annual savings of $21k.

Sustainable Value

InSite delivers improvement recommendations directly to your operations team, with details on calculations used and step-by-step instructions for how to resolve issues for good. Through continuous commissioning, our building scientists and energy analysts make targeted recommendations for cost-positive improvements.

In the third graph snippet, InSite uncovered that fan powered terminals were cycling on fans overnight even though zone temperatures were within range. This was occurring regularly on more than 200 units. Changing this setting resulted in more than $4k in savings.

Maintenance That Moves the Needle

Maintenance doesn’t have to be a never-ending list of break-fix requests. InSite enables maintenance teams to get ahead of their workloads without duplicating systems. As a result, operations and maintenance teams are able to prevent unplanned breakdowns, fix high value problems and save on utility costs. And their to-do lists get smaller too.

At first look, InSite identified several VAV dampers were controlling backwards with airflow decreasing as damper position increased and static pressure maintained. With simple recommissioning of the VAV dampers and low-touch reprogramming or re-mounting, the problem is solved and more than $5k in energy waste is recovered.

Data + Engineering

Designed by engineers for engineers, InSite goes beyond a data visibility platform to making data actionable. Our team of subject matter experts across building engineering, energy data and data science work collaboratively to effectively transform data into practical, effective solutions that lead to tangible results.

How It Works

Get more results without doing more

  • Audit
  • Alongside data collection, InSite engineers perform an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Assessment to gain a holistic understanding of the building’s operations and inform updates to the improvement roadmap.

  • Identify
  • With a keen eye toward HVAC operations best practices for maximum efficiency, our engineers identify anomalies and outliers in equipment operation to bring your team targeted and validated opportunities for improvement.

  • Prescribe
  • Our building experts and project managers meet with your operations team monthly to review performance analytics, rebate opportunities and ECM recommendations. InSite also provides support for ECM implementation when you decide which ones to prioritize.

  • Monitor
  • Using machine learning and FDD tools, our expert team of engineers and analysts implement monitoring-based commissioning to identify trends and anomalies on a continuous basis.
